Gunners News: Reading 5-7 Arsenal

Walcott & Chamakh seal Madejski madness in astonishing Gunners comeback

The Gunners recover from a four-goal deficit against a game Royals side and triumph in extra time after a contest which will go down among the classics of the modern era

Capital One Cup - Reading v Arsenal, Marouane Chamakh

First-half strikes from Jason Roberts, Mikele Leigertwood, Noel Hunt and an own goal from Laurent Koscielny had earlier given the rampant Royals a lead which looked unassailable but a double from Walcott - along with efforts from Olivier Giroud and Koscielny in the right end – forced the match to extra time.

Marouane Chamakh edged the Gunners in front but substitute Pavel Pogrebnyak's header looked to have sent the game hurtling towards penalties before Walcott and Chamakh struck again to seal the win.

The astounding result gives Arsene Wenger a timely and unlikely boost after the club's stormy annual general meeting, while his opposite number Brian McDermott now faces a stiff challenge to pick his dejected players up in time for Sunday's relegation crunch clash against QPR.

Wenger rang the changes from the side which beat QPR on Saturday, resting Jack Wilshere and handing a rare start to youngsters Serge Gnabry and Damian Martinez. McDermott, meanwhile, fielded a strong side despite having one eye firmly fixed on the crucial trip to Loftus Road.
In front of a raucous home crowd, Reading started the brighter and, in the second minute, Sean Morrison met Nicky Shorey's cross with a firm header which struck the post.

Less than 10 minutes later, they did take the lead, however, when Roberts met Hal Robson-Kanu's precise centre to nod home from close range.

There was no discernible reaction from Arsenal and, on 18 minutes, the hosts doubled their advantage when Chris Gunter's cross cannoned off Koscielny and beat Martinez at his near post.

Wenger's makeshift team looked lost and, three minutes later, they were three down when Leigertwood drove to the edge of the box and unleashed a low strike into the bottom corner.

Reading looked nothing like the side who have yet to record a Premier League victory this season and Hunt nodded in a fourth from another cross, this time from Garath McCleary, with 37 minutes gone.

Spurred on by their humiliation, Arsenal poured forward once more and, in first-half injury time, Walcott raced onto a rare incisive Andrey Arshavin pass and dinked over Adam Federici to give his side the smallest measure of hope going into the break.

But Reading began the second half as they had ended the first and, moments after Leigertwood had tested Martinez again, the former Crystal Palace man raided down the left and clipped in in a cross which Miquel directed narrowly over his own crossbar.

The Arsenal attack were at least starting to show signs of life, however, and after Leigertwood had spurned another decent chance, Walcott latched onto another Arshavin pass before hitting a left-footed effort which was kept out by a mixture of Federici and the post.

Just after the hour Wenger introduced German youngster Thomas Eisfeld and Giroud in place of Serge Gnabry and Emmanuel Frimpong and the French striker took just seven minutes to make an impact, impressively heading in Walcott's corner.

Reading began to sense a first ever victory over Arsenal as the clock ran down but the Gunners had other ideas.

Koscielny's 90th-minute header set up a frantic finale, before Walcott's angled shot crossed the line despite Shorey's best attempts to clear. Carl Jenkinson followed up and smashed in to remove any doubt that this remarkable match was headed for extra time.

Two minutes in, the hosts almost retook the lead, McCleary surging through the centre of the pitch before jinking past two Arsenal defenders and forcing Martinez into a decent save low to his right.

But the momentum was now firmly with the Gunners and, two minutes before the interval, some good work from Giroud and Arshavin found Chamakh on the edge of the box and the much-maligned Moroccan fired a low shot through the legs of Kaspar Gorkss and past Federici.

Deflated but not yet defeated, Reading poured forward in the second period and Martinez had to save superbly with his legs to deny a goal-bound Morrison header. The Royals kept coming and they got their reward, as Gunter's shot was deflected into the path of the newly introduced Pogrebnyak, who powered a header in. The game was level with four minutes before penalties.

Play flowed from end to end, with both sides desperately searching for a winner, and Arsenal made the breakthrough when Arshavin's shot was hacked off the line by Gorkss, only for Walcott to hammer home the rebound.

Reading were in no mood to give up but their fate was sealed with seconds remaining when Chamakh latched onto a clearance and lobbed the despairing Federici to give a truly astonishing match the finish it deserved.

Gunners news: Arsenal 1-0 QPR

Arteta spares Gunners’ blushes on Wilshere’s return

The Spaniard struck late on to seal three points for Arsene Wenger's side, who struggled to break down their London rivals despite Stephane Mbia's red card

EPL: Jack Wilshere - Shaun Wright-Phillips, Arsenal v QPR
Arsenal marked Jack Wilshere’s return to action with a nerve-jangling victory over 10-man QPR secured by a late strike from Mikel Arteta.

The Spaniard scrambled the ball over the goalline in the 84th minute following an afternoon of toil for Arsene Wenger’s side in which they once again failed to find their attacking rhythm.

The result, which lifts the Gunners to fourth position in the Premier League, came thanks to a helping hand from QPR defender Stephane Mbia, who was sent-off in the 80th minute after foolishly kicking out at Arsenal captain Thomas Vermaelen.

QPR manager Mark Hughes will now face increasing speculation over his future as the west London club remain rock-bottom in the Premier League with three points from nine matches.

The Welshman could do with a player like Wilshere, who made his first Arsenal start since May 2011 following 17 months dogged by ankle problems. The England international looked like he had never been away, skipping past challenges and injecting some energy into the Gunners’ play in the final third.

The rest of the team, however, were visibly lacking in confidence, with their movement static and decision-making suspect.

Those nerves were almost eased in the 10th minute when Aaron Ramsey got on the end of Bacary Sagna’s excellent cross. The Welshman’s header looped towards the far post, beating QPR goalkeeper Julio Cesar but bouncing off the top of the crossbar.

Cesar then had to stay alert to deny efforts from Wilshere and Olivier Giroud from outside the penalty area but the visitors would have been happy to restrict the Gunners to hopeful shots from distance.

There were few signs of improvement immediately after the break. Cesar parried away Per Mertesacker’s header following a free-kick from Mikel Arteta before Santi Cazorla lashed over the bar from 12 yards when he should have at least hit the target.

The match swung in the Gunners’ favour, though, 10 minutes from time when Mbia needlessly lashed out at Arsenal skipper Vermaelen as the pair competed for the ball by the corner flag.  It was hot-headed, reckless, and the visitors could have no excuses.

Cesar brilliantly prevented an own goal from Samba Diakite with a full-stretch save but the hosts finally beat the Brazilian six minutes from time.

Giroud’s initial header was superbly saved by Cesar but the QPR defenders failed to react, the ball finding its way to Arteta, whose headed effort hit the crossbar before he poked home the rebound on the goalline.

QPR responded positively and could have levelled in the dying stages, with Esteban Granero shooting wide before substitute Jamie Mackie was denied from point-blank range by Arsenal goalkeeper Vito Mannone in injury time.

Lights of the city at night

We have already looked at like that of Earth at night . And then turned up photo. He began to dig further .. but it turns out ...

Under the auspices of NASA and a number of organizations in the states is such an interesting project - "Nighttime Lights of the World".
It not only publishes pictures of the earth from outer space night. He is using meteorological records of the illumination of the night in the dynamics of the Earth and comparing, lays out the map changes in illumination.

Observations conducted in 1993, the site posted the data to 2003 inclusive.

What you see below - Dynamic Card light of Eurasia, where the red marked re-emerged in this period lights.

From pink to gray - constant during this period the lights of varying intensity - from high to low.

Light and dark blue flowers marked the light intensity is decreased.

Finally, marked in blue light, which ceased to exist.
Extinguished the light.

Is there life on Mars?

You know what this is? This picture from Mars.

This structure, shown in close-up, received the device imager (for microscopic images) located on the rover's automated arm Opportunity. The structure got its name "Robert E". It is situated on a rock outcropping Meridiani Planum. Scientists have studied the ball (small sphere) in the center of the image that pops out of the rock. This image has three centimeters in diameter and was received by 15 Martian day mission, the rover (February 8, 2004). These state the structure is very interested in academics as well as historical reasons for their education. Some layered structures are formed only under the action of the water environment.

This mosaic image shows an extremely close-up of the Martian surface. These round particles similar to the found blueberries were formed in the Martian soil near the rock outcrop at Meridiani Planum called Stone Mountain. Scientists are studying these curious formations for more precise information about the historical context in which the particles were formed. The image obtained by camera images of microscopic imager, - located on the instrument deployment device - an automated rover arm. The survey was compiled from several separate images obtained by the camera.

Official versions I found, but on the Internet since the rumor about the Martian blueberries. That's how people see the situation on the red planet.

On the distant and near the red planet

Among the vast expanses of desert

The rover has found ...

Something ...

Good look in 3D.

I saw that it grows on the rocks.

It grows out of them.

Hanging as blueberries from the bush.

And there it a lot.

A lot of ...

Entire fields.

If you ride on it ...

It can be crushed.

Peace of mind!

It will still grow again!

Who know, it really?

Just see it ...
